Topo Map Field Work
I use this lab to have my students
construct topo maps on our campus. The students walk a trail, record elevations
and then use those elevations to construct
a topo map. Make sure that you choose
varied terrain for the best effect.
Topographic Maps - Contour Line Intrepretation
Students are required to match simple topographic
map contour lines to their correct cross-sectional
profile.
Latitude and Longitude using ESRT pages 4 & 5
Students will use pages 4 and 5 of their ESRT's to demonstrate their knowledge of latitude and longitude

The Great NYS Race
Students compete against each other while using
their Earth Science Reference Table to determine
locations in NYS. I used coordinates for each
city from previous Regents exams. Have fun.
Mapping Wind Storms
The students will map a windstorm of one
of four types: hurricane, tornado,
winter storm or derecho. The students
will learn about the four major types of
wind storms.
Sample Map for Mapping Wind Storms
This map shows the most major wind storm
of each of the four types - hurricane,
tornado, winter storm, and derecho, to
hit the United States in the last 100
years.
