151 Earth Science Labs
A share-a-thon is a place where teachers can voluntarily upload their files for other teachers to use. When a teacher submits a file, it is catalogued and placed into a database. To view more materials from the topic above or from different branches of science click here.
Density And The Earth's Layers
A lab activity that has students creating density columns with various liquids. They then look at how these liquids relate to the layers of the Earth. Good activity for practicing with the ESRT and measurement skills.
Sequence Of Events Lab (using Outcrops)
Paper lab on sequencing of events in a bedrock outcrop. Relative dating laws, unconformities, folds, and faults will be addressed. If you need an answer key, please e-mail me: [email protected] Thank you to the four contributors to this lab.
Evaporation And Condensation
This is a simple, yet effective, activity to reinforce the processes of evaporational cooling and condensational warming. It can be done as a class or given to students as a 'hands-on' activity and exercise in following directions.
Sun's Path Lab Activity
This computer-based lab has students test their understanding of the sun's apparent movement (within an observer's celestial sphere) using a University of Nebraska interactive animation. Daily and seasonal changes are covered in this activity.
Planetary Scaling Pre-Assessment Test
This is a simple test given before a lab on scaling within the solar system. Helps to address misconceptions before and after the lab.
Weathering of Gypsum
Sea Floor Spreading
Students will graph the ocean bottom of the North Atlantic to identify ocean bottom features, and processes associated with the Mid Atlantic Ridge.
Cloud In A Bottle
In this lab students explore the relationship between pressure and temperature, learning about adiabatic temperature changes and their role in cloud formation.
Uses light bulbs shining on shiny can vs black can and beaker of water vs beaker of soil to compare heating and cooling rates
Spectroscopy & The Doppler Effect Lab
Lab showing the different types of spectra and how they are used to determine the elements in the stars and questions pertaining to red-shift and blue-shift in the universe.
