154 Earth Science Labs

A share-a-thon is a place where teachers can voluntarily upload their files for other teachers to use. When a teacher submits a file, it is catalogued and placed into a database. To view more materials from the topic above or from different branches of science click here.

Angular Measurement Lab
Students will determine the angular size of their thumbs and fists so that they can be used as angular measuring tools. The students will then use their new tool to make measurements in the night sky.

Parallax Lab
Students will use parallax to determine the length of their arm.

Porosity/Permeability Lab
Lab measuring the porosity & permeability of sand, gravel, soil, and mixed sediment.

Deposition (Settling Time)
Lab measuring & analyzing the effect of size, shape, and density on settling times/rates.

Alka-Seltzer Weathering Lab
Weathering Rates Lab using Alka-Seltzer (or denture tablets).

Rain Shadow Lab
Students model the rain shadow effect by walking up and down the stairs in your school.

Apparent Motion Of The Sun
Using the sun's motions flash file, students will investigate the sun's apparent path through the sky and how it changes with the seasons and the location of the observer.

Measurement Lab
Basic measurement lab for the "Prolgue" chapter. Covers conversions, percent error, mass, volume, and the use of basic science equipment. Modifications could be to add a "density" section too.

Density For Chocoholics
Density is the term used to describe the relationship between the mass of an object and its volume. Under constant conditions of temperature and pressure, the density of any substance is always constant. Altering the temperature and/or pressure of a sy

What Happened At Lake Nyos?
